Transparency: Another core value of Draquis

Transparency: Another core value of Draquis

Our transparency promise

December 22, 2023

I decided to write some posts about the things that are important to me and the company, to show you what Draquis stands for. Best way to do that is by writing about my Core values! (This may sound boring, but trust me it isn’t!)

The “What”: meaning of transparency

Besides ethical responsibility, eco-consciousness and improvement there is one more core value at Draquis: Transparency. Basically it means having open and honest communication about company operations. In my case this would mean being open about my production line, sourcing, pricing, business values etc.

So why do I want to be transparent, when there are so many companies keeping all this information behind closed doors. Why don’t I just join them and make my life a little easier? Well, in short, transparency builds trust. This it important for several reasons, let’s find out.

The “Why”: reasons for being transparent

When a company is very open and detailed about the way they work 2 things happen. Firstly, it is easier for you to decide if this company lines up with your values, I guess this is something you’d rather know before you start working or buy something there! Secondly, when employees trust their employers there is usually an increase in loyalty, engagement and commitment.

Since I don’t have any employees this is obviously not the main reason why I decided to be transparent, but I thought it was worth noting. So let’s move on to my reasons for being transparent.

My personal reasons

Because I am now more aware of the negative effects of the fashion industry I look at more things then just what items are made off. The materials are often listed right next to the item and even though this is an important part, there are other important things as well. Like: where items are made, how they are made and by who. This information is usually nowhere to be found.

Why is this a problem? There are a lot of companies making green claims. This means that they are saying something is eco-friendly/sustainable. But when they can’t back up these statements with proof it is called greenwashing. There are too many companies out there that are profiting off of the environment and people and I don’t want to support them by giving them my money. No trust = No sales. Obviously, no sales isn’t good for a company selling items, as you can imagine! Haha

Transparency is always part of sustainable businesses, because you need to back up your claims. Without the proof you could still be sustainable, but… most likely the claims are just fake. As a sustainable business, this of course means that transparency is a must for Draquis. Also, I just really want to share all these cool things with you!!

Tiny summary

So, in short: I need to be able to back up my sustainability claims in order to really proof that I am an eco-consciouss company AND by proving that my claims are real I show you that you can trust me! If no trust = no sales, then Trust = Sales, right?

Anyway, I still have a lot to figure out, how to actually do this. But step by step it will take shape, so stick around to find out!
