Core values

Every company has some beliefs that are important to them. Not just important, these beliefs shape the identity of the company. Decisions will be made with these beliefs as a guide. We call these beliefs: core values. I will tell you some information about core values, but mostly I will tell you what mine are!

The purpose of core values

Let me give you some examples of core values first, for instance: Loyalty, integrity, innovation, curiousity, accessibility. It can also be more than just one word, like: “think big” and “deliver results”. Usually a company choses several values that describe them best and I believe it is in the combination of values that you can truly show what your company stands for.

Why have core values? Like I said earlier, core values shape the identity of the company. Decision-making will always be done with the values in mind. It helps employees to work together because they have a shared vision, shared values. Also, with help of your core values you can find people in your target market (the customers). These people often value the same things as you do!

My core values

After reading all this, you might wonder what the core values of Draquis are. Well, what I did was look at what I thought was important to me and which of those things should be important in my company. This is how I ended up with these: eco-conscious, ethically responsible, transparency and improvement. I will give a short breakdown below about what these mean to me, but I will write a post about each one too where I will go into more detail!

Eco-conscious

Let’s start with “eco-conscious”. For a long time I was set on calling this sustainable, but I came to the realisation that this term can mean something different for everyone. It was too vague. Eco-conscious captures what I stand for. It shows a focus on the environment and trying to improve this, not harm it more. I try to be conscious of the environmental impact of my actions and decisions.

Ethically responsible

In my eyes this core value stands for respecting human rights, treating everybody equally, without discrimination. No matter their gender, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, disabilties etc. It also means that I know my business can have an impact on the environment and society, I have to try to not make it a negative impact. So for instance, I chose to use more sustainable fabric and look for factories that provide fair working conditions.

Transparency

Personally, I always get very annoyed if a company only provides limited information or even no information at all about certain topics. If I buy new clothes I want to know where they are made, who made them, what kind of material it is and where did this material come from. And I want this information to be easily found, not hidden away somewhere on my website. This transparency is something I wish I saw more, if it’s important to me, it should definitely be important to Draquis!

Improvement

Improvement in every single aspect of the company. One thing you should really know about me: I am still learning! Which means that I have made mistakes and I will make more in the future. Even if I’d know it all, it is still human to make mistakes. However, I will strive to be better and do better in my personal life and in my business. I have learned that I can’t start off with the perfect product, but this means I have goals to work to and improvements to make!

Stay tuned!

I kept the explanations brief today, but if you’d like more information about these core values and why I chose them, then keep an eye out for my next posts! In the following weeks I will share more about each individual core value. I will go into more depth about why these core values are important to me and my company!
